Previous Asante Kotoko chairman, Herbert Mensah, has expressed that it is not the obligation of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the life supporter of the club, to fiscally bolster the team.
His comments came after the club’s playing body, Intervals Administration Committee (IMC), and specialized group displayed the 2024/25 FA Cup trophy to the Asantehene at the Manhyia Royal residence on Wednesday.
Speaking on sake of Otumfuo, Mr. Mensah—currently serving as President of Rugby Africa—emphasised the require for those in charge of the club to take full responsibility.
“You must get back up, be at the World Club Championship, and bring the wonderfulness back,” he said. “Otumfuo has contributed; it is not Otumfuo’s work to contribute in Kotoko.
“It is Kotoko that you accomplish, and those who hold it must contribute. It is an respect, it is a benefit to hold Kumasi Asante Kotoko,” he added.
Herbert Mensah, who driven the club from 1999 to 2003, is broadly respected as one of the most powerful figures in the club’s later history.
