LeBron James will play in a record NBA season after his agents said the 40-year-old exercised the option to extend his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Rich Paul said James, the NBA's leading goal scorer, was aiming for his fifth championship after activating a $53 million player option in the 2025-26 season.
He knows the Lakers are built for the future. He understands that, but he appreciates the realistic chances of winning everything,” he told ESPN.
While preparing for the future, we understand that winning is difficult now. At this stage, I would like to assess what is best for LeBron in his life and career. He wants to count every season, and the Lakers to understand that they are there and support the one that suits him best.
James currently has an NBA season record with eight All-Star Vince Carter. His record of 1,562 regular season appearances is just 50 just before the break on NBA records for former Boston Celtics star Robert Parrish.
In 2023 he broke Lakers icon Kareem Abdul Jabber's longtime point record 38,387, becoming the NBA's leading goal scorer. The current balance is 42,184. James' NBA career began in 2003 when he was caught in the home team of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The striker joined the Miami Heat in 2010 and won two titles before successfully completing his only NBA title since 2016, leading to the NBA's only title.
He has been with the Lakers since 2018 and helped him win the 2020 title. This was the fourth time James has been appointed NBA Finals MVP.
His 20-year-old son Bronnie was the first father-son duo to be impressed with the Lakers in the summer of 2024 and share the place in the NBA game in October.
