Agricultural Development Bank (or just ADB for short) has decided to go full throttle at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) by rolling out 24/7 banking right at the port. Yeah, you read that right banking, all day, all night. This whole thing kicked off on July 1, 2025 (mark that on your calendar if you’re the type who cares about these things).
Honestly, it’s a pretty smart move. Now, importers, exporters, freight forwarders basically anyone running around at the port don’t have to sweat about banking hours or last-minute payments for GPHA handling charges. It’s all open, round-the-clock. No more “Sorry, we’re closed” nonsense.
Edward Ato Sarpong, the big boss at ADB, had a lot to say. He’s hyped about how this ties in with the government’s 24-hour economy plan y’know, the one that’s all about creating jobs, pumping up exports, and getting the economy to actually hustle, not just laze around. In his words, it’s not just about keeping the lights on, but about real value and legit jobs. Sounds good on paper, right?
He also pointed out that this 24-hour service is going to be a lifesaver for freight forwarders, customs folks, shipping companies, and traders who work those wild hours. No more getting stuck because the bank’s closed. Just get things done, whenever. Boom.
And apparently, there’s more coming. The plan is to roll out these 24-hour services at other payment spots across Ghana, so it’s not just a Tema Port thing. Honestly, about time.
Oh, and in case you missed the memo, ADB’s new tagline is “Beyond Banking…” which, let’s be real, is probably supposed to make you feel like they’re doing something revolutionary. But hey, if it means less hassle for customers, I’m all for it.
So, if you’re running business through Tema Port, you might want to jump on this 24-hour banking thing. No excuses now pay your charges, keep your business moving, and maybe get a few more hours of sleep. Or not. Up to you.
