Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has made headlines yet again—this time not for her dramatic career transformation from controversial fetish priestess to self-styled evangelist, but for her conviction in a significant fraud case dating back to 2022.
An Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Evelyn Asamoah, has found Agradaa guilty of “charlatanic advertisement” and “defrauding by false pretenses.” The conviction follows the circulation of a video in which she was seen promising to double attendees’ money during a spiritual all-night event at her church, Heaven Way, located in Weija. This promise, needless to say, did not materialize for those who participated.
Interestingly, before sentencing, Justice Asamoah ordered Agradaa to undergo a pregnancy test. Details regarding the length of her sentence are still pending.
This verdict comes almost three years after her initial arrest on October 9, 2022. The arrest was triggered by widespread allegations that Agradaa had orchestrated a fraudulent money-multiplication scheme during a church service just two days earlier.
At the time, the Ghana Police Service confirmed, “The police have arrested Patricia Asiedua, alias Nana Agradaa, following allegations of a money-doubling scam levelled against her by some members of the public. The suspect is currently assisting with police investigations.”
The event in question, held on October 7, 2022, reportedly attracted numerous congregants with the promise of increased financial blessings. In the aftermath, several attendees claimed they were deceived, alleging that they handed over money to Agradaa and received nothing in return neither the promised multiplied amount nor any form of refund.
These grievances quickly surfaced online, sparking public outrage and prompting a broader investigation by law enforcement. Following her arrest, authorities encouraged additional victims to report their experiences to the Accra Regional Police Command to aid the ongoing investigation.
The case underscores the importance of regulatory oversight and the risks posed by unverified financial schemes, particularly those targeting vulnerable individuals seeking quick solutions.
