Head Coach, Kim Lars Björkegren was not thrilled after that 2-0 loss to South Africa. And honestly? Can’t blame the guy. Black Queens looked sharp for the first half hour, then boom South Africa snags a penalty outta nowhere, thanks Linda Motlhalo, and just like that, the wheels kinda fell off. Before you even finish groaning, Jermaine Seoposenwe bags another. Ouch.
Even so, the Queens didn’t just roll over. Second half, Alice Kusi and Evelyn Badu both rattled the woodwork. Could’ve been a totally different story if those had gone in. That’s football for you sometimes the post is your enemy.
Björkegren, sounding half frustrated, half proud, said, “We were the better team at the start, then that penalty just killed our focus. We slipped, and boom, they punished us again. That’s on us.” Not exactly sugarcoating it, but he did give his squad props for holding their own against the defending champs. Gotta respect that honesty
Now, Ghana’s gotta shake it off and look ahead to Mali and Tanzania. No time to sulk. WAFCON’s not over, not by a long shot.
