Inspired by Afrochella, screenwriter Tracy Oliver had previously disclosed plans to take the film's four female characters to Ghana. In a recent interview with UPI, Hall revealed that the setting might be moved due to script changes.
"I've heard that it might not be in Ghana," Hall remarked. They have since relocated. I am aware that it is being written by Tracy and Kenya [Barris].
Hall gave more information than she did on The Jennifer Hudson Show last week when she spoke on Zoom to promote her new film O'Dessa.
Hall stated that Girls Trip 2 will still take place in Africa, pending the viability of filming, even though the exact location is still up in the air.
"But that doesn't really narrow it down," she replied, adding that she was aware that it was in Africa, a continent. "I am aware that it is in Africa. It most likely has a lot to do with the location of the infrastructure, which leads me to believe that South Africa. That's how I feel.
