Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has shared some exciting news! He wants to change the way we buy things from other countries. The goal is to make it harder to bring in products that we can already make right here at home.
This new plan is all about helping our own factories and businesses grow. By making more things locally, we can create more jobs for people and support our local economy.
Dr. Forson talked about this during a meeting with the Plastic Manufacturers Association. They shared some important issues they are facing in their industry.
The Association mentioned that they want a fairer tax system. They don’t want just a few businesses to carry all the tax burden. They also pointed out problems with selling their products to other countries, the wrong use of import exemptions, and the issue of low-quality products being dumped into the market.
The Minister listened to these concerns and promised that the government is working hard to make the economy better. He wants to lower inflation (which is when prices go up) and reduce the exchange rate, which affects how much we pay for things at the ports.
Dr. Forson also mentioned that he will team up with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to fix problems with money that should be collected at the ports. This way, we can make sure that our local businesses have a fair chance to succeed!
