The Black Satellites of Ghana have ascended to the top of Group C in the ongoing U20’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a shinning 1-0 victory over the Central African Republic (C.A.R) in their last group stage match.
Ghanaians once again had their nervous reliance on ‘Mr. Reliable’ Joseph Amankwaah Opoku who scored the critical goal that came in the last five minutes which was the 84th minute.
The overall result kept Ghana in the tournament’s winning streak while also confirming their control over the group ahead of the competition.
The Satellites headed into the game after a 1-1 snooze fest with D.R. Congo and a neck to neck encounter with Senegal where they edged out 1-0.
The Central African Republic had previously collected a single point against Senegal but were defeated in their second game with D.R Congo.
Despite having several opening chances, Issah struggled to convert, but his teams’ staunch defense secured the lead till the hourglass ran out.
With this victory Ghana solidified their group stage position finishing with a whooping seven points, and qualifying them for the quarterfinals where they will face the second placed team from Group B or A.
In the meantime, Abdul Aziz Issah collected the Man of the Match award. The U-20 national team of Ghana, the Black Satellites, have advanced to the quarter finals of the U-20 AFCON after finishing first in group C, winning their last group match against Mozambique 1-0.
Fulfilling his expectations, Desmond Ofei’s side is only one victory away from qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup this November in Chile.
