Ghanaian rapper Kojo Cue wants musicians to take care of their mental health. He talked about his own struggles during an interview with ZionFelix.
In another conversation with Graphic Showbiz, Cue encouraged everyone in the entertainment world to have more open talks about mental health.
Kojo Cue, whose real name is Linford Kennedy Amankwaa, believes that being open about your feelings is really important. He thinks that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. He believes that recognizing when you’re having a tough time is a big step toward feeling better and growing as a person.
Cue shared that he went through two really hard experiences in 2020 and 2021. On top of that, the stress from the COVID-19 pandemic made everything feel even heavier. Because of this, he decided to get professional help.
“In 2020 and 2021, I faced two back-to-back traumatic experiences that pushed me to my limits. I’m intentionally withholding some details as they relate closely to my upcoming projects, both in theme and execution,” he said. “But those events happening so close together, along with the pressures of COVID, became too much. That’s when I knew I needed therapy to deal with what I was going through.”
One of the best ways for him to cope was by traveling. He visited places like Nigeria, Kenya, the United States, Italy, and many spots in Ghana. Each trip helped him clear his mind.
“I traveled a lot. I went to Nigeria, then Kenya, spent time in the US, and even lived in Italy for a bit. I went all over, including different places here in Ghana. The idea was simple: changing your surroundings can help you think better,” he explained. “It’s like cleaning your room to make it feel fresh. When you’re in a new place, your brain gets new things to think about, which helps you stop overthinking and feeling sad. It’s a way to reset.”
Besides traveling, Kojo Cue also found that therapy, good friendships, and even gardening helped him keep his emotions in check. These activities allowed him to stay grounded and start feeling better over time.
He pointed out that his time away from music wasn’t just a break; it was a meaningful pause. Every moment he spent away from the spotlight helped shape who he is today.
Now that he’s back in the music scene, Kojo Cue hopes that by sharing his story, he can encourage others to speak up about their feelings, seek help, and understand that they are not alone in their struggles.
