Samuel Sarfo Duku, who is in charge of communications for the Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, recently shared some tough news. He said that winning the league title is going to be really hard this season.
This announcement came after Kotoko played a match against Bibiani Gold Stars over the weekend. The game ended in a 0-0 tie, which means Kotoko is now five points behind the team at the top of the league, Nations FC.
Kotoko still has two more games to play against Medeama SC and Vision FC as they finish up the 2024-2025 league season. Duku believes that winning the title is still possible, but it’s going to be a big challenge, especially after they missed the chance to earn three points in the game against Bibiani.
Duku said, “We still have our eyes on the title because technically, it’s possible, but it’s now a very difficult task for us. I have to admit, it has become very, very hard for us. Looking at how Nations FC is playing, it will be tough for them to lose, but that’s what I’m hoping for.”
In the game against Gold Stars, Kotoko didn’t have their striker, Kwame Opoku, because he was called up to play for the Black Stars in the Unity Cup. Kotoko’s head coach, Karim Zito, mentioned how important Opoku is to the team and how his absence affected their performance in the game.
So, as Kotoko moves forward, they have a tough road ahead if they want to catch up and win the league title!
