Ghana’s Black Queens have officially announced their 24-player roster for the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, taking place from July 5th to 26th. Head Coach Lars Kim Björkegren has opted for a well-rounded squad—three goalkeepers, eight defenders, seven midfielders, and six forwards—balancing experience with fresh talent.
Team captain Portia Boakye leads the list, as expected, bringing both leadership and international experience. Notably, midfielder Abigail Kofi Kim has not made the final cut, a decision that reflects the competitive nature of this selection process.
Five athletes from the Ghana Women’s Premier League have been included: Kerrie McCarthy, Afi Amenyaku, Comfort Yeboah, Nancy Amoah, and Wasiima Mohammed. Their selection underscores the strength and growth of local football development.
The Black Queens will compete in Group C, facing defending champions South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania—certainly a challenging group, but one that presents significant opportunities.
Returning to the continental tournament for the first time since 2018, the Black Queens are aiming to make a substantial impact.
Final Squad List:
Goalkeepers: Kerrie McCarthy, Afi Amenyaku, Cynthia Konlan Findib
Defenders: Ernestina Abambila, Susan Ama Duah, Josephine Bonsu, Nina Norshie, Portia Boakye, Louisa Aniwaa, Anasthesia Achiaa, Comfort Yeboah
