Afriyie Barnieh’s off to FC Aarau in the Swiss Challenge League. And guess what? It’s a free transfer. Talk about a steal.
Barnieh, 24, just inked a two-year deal with Aarau. Not too long ago, he was at FC Zurich, but that partnership fizzled out by “mutual consent.” (Which, let’s be real, usually means things went a bit sideways.)
He originally landed in Zurich back in January 2023, fresh from Hearts of Oak the big dogs in Ghana. Signed on for three and a half years, big hopes and all that. In the end, the guy racked up 50 appearances, bagged two goals, and threw in four assists for good measure. Not exactly earth-shattering numbers, but hey, he wasn’t just hanging around.
Thing is, Barnieh never really nailed down a regular starting spot at Zurich. So, they parted ways. Now he’s got a shot to reboot his career in Switzerland’s second tier with Aarau. Let’s see if he can make some noise there, yeah?
