Patricia Asiedua, widely recognized in Ghana as Nana Agradaa, has been handed a 15-year prison sentence including hard labor, following her conviction on multiple fraud charges. The sentencing, delivered by Justice Evelyn Asamoah at the Accra Circuit Court on July 3, 2025, marks the conclusion of a high-profile case that has drawn significant public attention.
The conviction centers on a 2022 incident where Ms. Asiedua, during a service at her Heaven Way Church in Weija, promised to multiply attendees’ cash contributions a claim that quickly went viral and led to widespread allegations of fraud. The court found her guilty of “charlatanic advertisement” and “defrauding by false pretences,” specifically tied to the so-called money-doubling scheme.
Prior to final sentencing, the court ordered a pregnancy test for Ms. Asiedua, which resulted in a brief delay. Upon completion, the 15-year custodial sentence was confirmed, with the additional stipulation of hard labor.
Ms. Asiedua’s legal challenges began in October 2022, following her arrest by Ghana Police after several complaints surfaced regarding her church activities. Many attendees claimed they were misled by promises of supernatural financial returns at an event held on October 7, 2022.
Following her arrest, the Ghana Police Service released a statement confirming ongoing investigations into allegations of a money-doubling scam. As the case gained traction, numerous alleged victims came forward both online and in person reporting financial losses and demanding accountability.
In response, authorities called for additional victims to report to the Accra Regional Police Command, further expanding the investigation. The case ultimately culminated in the significant custodial sentence delivered in court, signaling a strong stance against fraudulent activities within the community.
