Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has offered advise to Jordan Ayew, the recently designated captain of the Black Stars, ahead of their pivotal last fixtures in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ayew, who plays for Leicester City, has been named captain for the upcoming matches against Angola and Niger, with Thomas Partey missing from the squad.
Remarking on Ayew's appointment, Badu, a previous Black Stars midfielder and U-20 World Cup winner, encouraged the new captain to interface with the players both on and off the field.
He encouraged Ayew to visit his colleagues in their rooms to lay out a compatibility and give guidance on the challenges of playing for the senior national team.
"Jordan Ayew is the senior most player in the team for the time being. I will ask him to converse with the folks and visit them in their rooms. I did likewise with his sibling at the U-20 level, similar to what Asamoah Gyan and any semblance of Stephen Appiah were doing," he told Ahotor FM.
He further made sense of the significance of assisting the more youthful players with figuring out the way of life and tensions of international football.
"Converse with them since they don't have the foggiest idea about the territory, the socialization and the way of life. Let them know that this is a requesting and football country. Our allies request a ton.
With more than 12 years of involvement with the national team, Ayew is knowledgeable in the requests of international football, Badu noted.
"Jordan has been in the public group for more than 12 to 13 years and he knows the 'intricate details" and the chances. I realize that he can quiet them and go into the games with great preparations," he added.
Ghana will face Angola sometime in the evening at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, prior to playing Niger in their last home game at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18.
Following Niger's 4-0 triumph over Sudan on Thursday, the Black Stars should win both matches and trust Sudan loses to Angola to get qualification for AFCON 2025.
