Andy Appiah Kubi, the attorney representing Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has confirmed that his client has been hospitalized following the arrest and detention of Wontumi by detectives from the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).
In an exclusive interview with JoyNews, Mr. Kubi revealed that Chairman Wontumi was taken to the hospital after approximately six hours of interrogation by EOCO officials. "My client has been admitted to the hospital for medical treatment," Mr. Kubi stated.
Regarding the events that occurred during the interrogation, Mr. Kubi mentioned that Wontumi’s legal team provided their statements as required. He further indicated that the NPP regional chairman responded to all inquiries posed by the EOCO officials, including those concerning the allegations against him.
He clarified that Wontumi's interrogation had not concluded. Therefore, they anticipated returning the following day, May 28, 2025, to continue from where they had paused.
The attorney was explicit in stating that they would not return to the EOCO headquarters for further interrogation if the politician's health did not improve, emphasizing that his client would only return once he has been discharged by medical professionals.
"Furthermore, we have received a writ of summons from Axim Bank, and we will respond to the pleading tomorrow (May 28, 2025). I am optimistic that we will be able to mount a defense against the writ," Mr. Kubi conveyed during the media interview.
