Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is super excited about the upcoming 2025 Unity Cup! He believes this tournament is a fantastic opportunity to check out some new players.
The Black Stars, who have won the African championship four times, are getting ready to compete in a four-nation tournament in London this week. Their first match is against their biggest rivals, Nigeria!
The winner of this match will get to play against either Trinidad and Tobago or Jamaica in the final. It’s going to be a thrilling competition!
Ghana’s team for this tournament has 23 players, but some big names are not on the list. Players like Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, and Inaki Williams won’t be playing this time.
Before the tournament starts, Coach Addo spoke to the media about how important these games are. He wants to use this chance to see how new players perform, especially since the Black Stars will be preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Mali later this year.
“This tournament is a great chance for us to see which players are ready for the big leagues. We’re thankful for this opportunity, especially as we gear up for the World Cup qualifiers in September,” he said.
He also mentioned, “There are still many questions about some players, and I’m really looking forward to giving young and rising stars a chance to show what they can do. By the end of this tournament, we hope to have a better idea of our team.”
Ghana will kick off their match against Nigeria on Wednesday, May 28, at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford. It’s going to be an exciting game, so don’t miss it!
