Ghanaian artist Tulenkey recently shared why he doesn’t spend much time on social media. He believes it can really mess with how we manage our time and even affect our mental health.
During a conversation with DJ Slim on Daybreak Hitz, Tulenkey explained that he has cut back on using social media because it can be super distracting.
He gave a funny example: “Imagine you’re at work, and suddenly your phone buzzes because someone sent you a message. That can really pull you away from what you’re doing!” He pointed out that many people keep their notifications on all the time. He thinks that apps like WhatsApp should work more like email, where you check messages when you want to, not when they pop up.
Tulenkey also mentioned that if someone gets interrupted, it can take them up to seven minutes to get back on track. That’s why he has turned off all notifications on his phone.
He shared that when he wakes up, he keeps his phone on ‘Do Not Disturb’ until noon because that’s when he gets most of his work done.
Tulenkey compared using social media to walking into a loud and busy place. “Social media is everywhere, and there’s just so much happening. If you take some time to relax and then go on social media, it feels like you’ve stepped into a crowded market!” he explained.
He also talked about how people are always on their phones, even in places like the bathroom. He thinks this means people don’t give their minds a break anymore.
Right now, Tulenkey is promoting his new music project called Barima. This song talks about the mental health struggles that men face. You can find it on all the major music platforms!
