The head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, is super excited about the Ghana Premier League as the national team gets ready for the Unity Cup in London!
Ghana, which has won the African championship four times, is going to play in a tournament with three other countries: Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. The games start this week, and everyone is buzzing with anticipation!
On Monday, the coach announced the 23 players who will represent Ghana. Among them are four players from the local league:
- Kwame Opoku from Asante Kotoko
- Kamaradini Mamudu from Medeama SC
- Benjamin Asare from Hearts of Oak
- Razak Simpson from Nations FC
These players are ready to show what they can do on the big stage!
Before the tournament kicks off, Coach Addo shared his thoughts about the local players. He believes they have what it takes to compete at a high level and thinks the quality of football in Ghana is really impressive.
“If you’ve watched our recent games, we’ve always had local players in our squad and also playing,” he said.
He also mentioned, “I rate the league very high; otherwise, we wouldn’t have players in our squad who can compete on that level… and I’m looking forward to seeing them on that level,” Addo added.
Ghana's first match is against Nigeria on Wednesday, May 28, at the GTech Community Stadium. The team that wins this match will move on to the final on Saturday, May 31, where they will face either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago.
Everyone is cheering for the Black Stars, and we can't wait to see how they perform! Go, Ghana!
