Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has shared the names of 23 players who will represent Ghana in the 2025 Unity Cup happening in London this week!
This tournament is going to be thrilling because four countries are joining the fun: Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago. They will all be fighting for the championship title, and it’s sure to be an exciting competition!
There are a few big names missing from the team. Important players like Thomas Partey, who is the deputy captain, and star midfielder Mohammed Kudus won’t be playing. Also, forwards Antoine Semenyo, Kamaldeen Sulemana, and Inaki Williams are not in the squad.
But don’t worry! There are some fresh faces and familiar ones returning. Young player Abdul Aziz Issah is getting his first chance to play with the senior team. Abdul Salis Samed is back after healing from an injury. Kwame Opoku, a striker from Asante Kotoko, is making a comeback for the first time since 2021, and Felix Afena-Gyan is also back after being away for two years.
Captain Jordan Ayew is still leading the team, and he will be joined by Gideon Mensah, Mohammed Salisu, and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who were all part of the last squad.
Ghana will kick off their tournament by facing off against their rivals, Nigeria, on May 28 at the Gtech Community Stadium. The winner of this match will move on to the final, while the team that loses will have a chance to play for third place.
These Unity Cup matches are super important for the Black Stars as they get ready for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying games against Mali and Chad, which are set for September.
Stay tuned for more updates and cheer on the Black Stars as they aim for victory!
